Welcome!

Welcome to the Sooke Firefighters Association Website. We've added a new look and more content in the hopes of creating a better online resource for our members, along with increasing our web-presences for anyone who happens to stumble in while clicking about the internet.

The Sooke Firefighters Association often serves as the social side of the Sooke Fire Department, setting up events like the Halloween Haunted House and Christmas Fire Truck Parade. While the Association is a separate entity from the Fire Department we work together, seamlessly, on a number of projects and initiatives.

The Fire Department is staffed by three full time members as well as 40 volunteer Firefighters and an additional five volunteers in the Fire Prevention Division. The Fire Protection area is approximately 65 square miles and made up of various commercial, residential and industrial buildings. Sooke has everything from working farms to auto repair shops, family restaurants to multiple story retirement centres; a skating rink, swimming pool, golf course and half a dozen public schools! There isn't much that Sooke DOESN'T have (well, except a Tim Horton's!). Each building and facility brings its own unique challenges for the Fire Department!

Approximately 11,000 people live in Sooke resulting in over 700 calls a year. In order to respond to these calls, the volunteers spend hundreds of hours each year training to keep their skills sharp.

In addition to responding to emergencies, the department also takes a proactive approach to fire prevention and public safety. The department is proud of its Fire Prevention Program that it has put together from scratch and has been featured in a number of Fire Service Magazines (you can find some of the links on this website).

Volunteer training takes place every Thursday night at the Otter Point Road Fire Hall. For information on the department, or how to become a volunteer, don't hesitate to call.
